Busted: John Fisher, Democrat State Rep. Candidate Caught Illegally Hiding Campaign Contributions

Freedom Fund Files Formal Complaint with the Department of State

LANSING, MI, March 31, 2016 — The Michigan Freedom Fund has filed a formal campaign finance complaint against Kalamazoo County Democrat John Fisher, after the perennial candidate for the state House failed to disclose 5 donations from various Democrat candidate committees.

According to campaign finance reports filed by committees for Democrat state Reps. Jon Hoadley, Jeremy Moss, Julie Plawecki, Andy Schor, and Sam Singh, Fisher last December received contributions from each of their committees.  Fisher himself has refused to report the contributions, in violation of Michigan’s campaign finance law.  Under the law, Fisher or his committee could be hit with a fine of up to $1,000.

In addition to these new violations, Fisher, a candidate for the 61st House District, already faces $5,000 in fines in connection with 4 previous campaign finance reporting violations.

“John Fisher needs to understand that complying with Michigan’s campaign finance act is a requirement, not a suggestion,” said Terri Reid, President of the Michigan Freedom Fund.  “The fact that he’s repeatedly flaunted transparency laws leaves voters wondering what else John Fisher is hiding.”

Fisher ran and lost a campaign for the 61st House District in 2014 and is running again in 2016.
