Senate Bill 437 Approved Today by Senate Energy and Technology Committee Would Kill Competition, Raise Costs on Job Makers, Schools

LANSING, MI, May 25, 2016 –Michigan Freedom Fund President Terri Reid today called on members of the state Senate to stand up for free-market principles and reject Senate Bill 437, advanced today by the Senate Energy and Technology Committee.  The bill is now before the full Senate for consideration.

“We’re deeply disappointed that members of the Senate Energy and Technology Committee put two massive electric utilities above the needs of their constituents, schools, and employers,” said Reid.  “Eliminating electric choice means abandoning free market principles, raising prices on schools and job creators, and sticking Michiganders with hundreds of millions in higher rates on their electricity.

“We urge members of the Senate to stand up for the free market and the principles that got them elected by rejecting this handout to Big Energy and any effort to strip Michigan families of economic choices and competition.”
