MFF Asks Commission to Select a Truly Independent Staff Attorney
LANSING, MI, April 8, 2021 – Michigan Freedom Fund Executive Director Tony Daunt provided the following statement today about the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission’s hiring consideration of leftwing activist and political donor Bruce Adelson:
“The members of the Independent Citizens Redistricting Commission have rightfully rejected several candidates - Republicans and Democrats alike - for high profile staff positions with the commission because of their partisan ties. Michigan residents have appreciated this commitment to conducting their business in a nonpartisan fashion and preserving their independence so that all Michigan residents can have faith in the commission’s work.
“Unfortunately, the Commission appears to have missed Mr. Adelson’s lengthy history of leftwing progressive activism, including contributions to partisan elected Democrats and social media posts minimizing anti-Semitic statements by controversial members of Congress like Minnesota Democrat Ilhan Omar. I know that the members of this commission take their work seriously and we urge them to reject Mr. Adelson’s application to serve in such an important role. The Commission would be better served finding a truly nonpartisan attorney to fill this position.”
